| Pasamos el día en Riga, la capital de Letonia. Paseamos por la ciudad antigua, visitamos el Mercado Central
(situado en los antiguos hangares de los zeppelines), andamos hasta un barrio con casas Art Nouveau... Pese a la predicción meteorológica,
disfrutamos de un estupendo dia soleado, aunque hace frío y el río Daugava sigue congelado a su paso por la ciudad.
We spend the day in Riga, Latvia´s capital. We stroll around Old Riga, the historical city center, we visit the Central Market
(in what used to be the zeppelin hangars in WWI), we walk to an area full of Art Nouveau buildings... Despite the weather forecast,
we enjoy a nice sunny day, although it's cold and Daugava river is still frozen. |

| VALLE DEL GAUJA/GAUJA VALLEY (27/03/05) |

Alquilamos un coche y nos vamos a recorrer la zona del río Gauja, a unos 100km al norte de Riga. Visitamos los castillos en la zona
de Sigulda y Krimulda, y probamos por primera vez en nuestra vida un bobsleigh: estos cacharros van más rápido de lo que nos esperabamos!! :-)
Acabamos el día en la pequeña ciudad de Cesis.
We rent a car and drive to the Gauja river valley, about 100km north of Riga. We visit the castles in the Sigulda and Krimulda area
and we even try a bobsleigh for the first time in our life: this thing goes much faster than we thought!! :-)

| KURZEME (28/03/05) |

Pasamos el día en la región de Kurzeme, al noroeste del país. Comenzamos la ruta en Jurmala, una ciudad costera famosa por sus playas...
todavía cubiertas por la nieve :-). Seguimos recorriendo la costa hasta el cabo Kolka. Visitamos un par de pueblecillos de esta región,
muy poco desarrollada, donde viven los Livs, una minoría étnica relacionada con los finlandeses. Pasamos por Dundaga, donde vemos la estatua
de un cocodrilo, dedicada a un barón letón de este pueblo, que acabó viviendo y cazando cocodrilos en Australia... y que conocimos casualmente
durante nuestro viaje por ese país! (ver foto "Crocodile Harry"
en Coober Pedy, Australia, Septiembre'03).
We spend the day in Kurzeme region, on the northeast of the country. We start our rute in Jurmala, a beach resort...
but the beach is still covered by snow :-) We continue along the coast until Kolka cape. We visit a couple of tiny villages in the area,
not very developped, inhabited by the Livs, an ethnic group related with Finns. We go through Dundaga, where we see a statue of a crocodile,
dedicated to a Latvian baron born in this town, who end up living and hunting crocodiles in Australia...and that we
happened to meet during our trip to that country! (see picture "Crocodile Harry"
in Coober Pedy, Australia, September'03). |

Pasamos nuestro ultimo dia en Letonia paseando de nuevo por la ciudad antigua de Riga. Comemos en un restaurante
armenio y ... de vuelta a Finlandia!
We spend our last day in Latvia walking around Old Riga. We have lunch at an Armenian restaurant and ... back to Finland! |
